What are Pre-Trial Diversion Programs?

Pre-Trial Diversion Programs enable qualified defendants to resolve their cases in lieu of prosecution.

Defendants who enter and complete the program(s) will be eligible to have their charges dismissed. There are programs for traffic, criminal offenses, and city code violations.

What Diversion Programs are available for qualified defendants?
Traffic Violations Diversion Program (PTI-T)

Our Pre-Trial Intervention-Traffic Violations Program (PTI-T) strives to make Atlanta a safer city by correcting driving behavior. Defendants who are seventeen years of age or older may be eligible for this program. Eligibility is determined by your charge(s) and records. Your driving, criminal and City of Atlanta violation records are taken into consideration. Acceptance into the program is at the discretion of the City Solicitor. If you are interested in learning more about PTI-T, please click here.

Criminal & City Ordinance Violations Diversion Program (CPTI)

Our Pre-trial Intervention-Criminal & City Ordinance Violations Diversion Program (CPTI) enables participants to take responsibility for their behavior without facing criminal conviction. Defendants seventeen years and older are eligible to participate in this program. Eligibility is determined by your charge(s) and records. Your driving, criminal and City of Atlanta violation records are taken into consideration. Acceptance into the program is at the discretion of the City Solicitor. If your case is eligible for the program, you will be required to pay a participation fee, perform community service, and take rehabilitative classes. To learn more about CPTI, email cpti@atlantaga.gov

Bicycle Diversion Program

The Office of the City Solicitor and Atlanta Bicycle Coalition provide free bicycle safety classes through the Bicycle Diversion Program. Violators of the city’s bicycle ordinance shall be eligible for participation in the program once annually. The bicycle diversion program is designed to promote understanding and awareness of the proper use of bicycle routes, bicycle lanes, multi-use trails within the City of Atlanta and to provide education on bicycle safety and traffic laws for both drivers and bicyclists. Acceptance into the program is at the discretion of the City Solicitor. If you are interested in learning more about the Bicycle Diversion Program, please call (404) 658-6163.
