First introduced in 1975, our Diversion and Alternative Prosecution Programs offer tremendous benefits and value.

For the OCS, the programs increase efficiency, save resources and promote public education on the observance of laws. For citizens, the programs provide alternatives to prosecution for first-time offenders.

If you are facing one of these offenses, consider participating in our Diversion Program. Instead of entering a formal plea, you complete an educational, law-focused program, following which the prosecutor can dismiss the case.

The OCS offers the following Diversion Programs:

Pre-trial Intervention for Traffic Offenses (PTIT)

This program provides traffic offenders an alternative to prosecution and possible conviction.

Pre-trial Intervention for Criminal Offenses (CPTI)

This program provides offenders charged with minor criminal offenses with no prior convictions, pending cases or prior participation in any diversion program, an alternative to prosecution and possible conviction. Offenders must complete community service and/or educational requirements.
