Our office is responsible for prosecuting general traffic and criminal cases. Examples include prosecuting DUI charges and all underlying violations, traffic offenses, civil offenses such as false alarms, parking ticket challenges, school bus camera violations and city ordinance infractions from case inception through bench trial and appeal, where applicable.
We prosecute quasi-criminal cases and city code violations, which include but are not limited to, housing, fire, commercial maintenance, zoning, sanitation, drinking water, illegal dumping, business license, erosion control, nuisances and, judicial in-rem.
The functions of the office are sustained by Case Screening, Record Restriction (formerly known as Expungements), Records Management, Investigative Support, Legal Support, and Plea in absentia (for defendants outside of Atlanta who could resolve cases without appearing in court). This process assists with the recovery of fines and fees that would likely have gone uncollected.
Our team provides pre and post adjudication legal support, including review of the charging document to determine whether the charge can sustain prosecution before filing the case in the court system.
This process includes authenticating data that indicates a violation of law, communicating with law enforcement officers or other parties to the case, and serving subpoenas for appearances in cases at the Atlanta Municipal Court.
